Learning Resources for Little Recyclers
Protecting our planet and the environment takes every effort, big and small, from each of us. Together we can make a significant difference, and at Veolia, we believe that it’s never too early to start learning about recycling and waste minimisation.
The large numbers of dedicated little recyclers we’ve met all around the country have proven that there’s a constant need to provide waste education tools and resources. Explore this page to learn more about Veolia’s Sustainable Schools and how we can support schools and children.
Veolia is the environmental solutions partner to many local authorities and businesses in the UK, providing sustainable recycling and waste collections, and street cleansing services, as well as operating various state-of-the-art facilities that include recycling sites and waste treatment.
Our amazing Education, Communication, and Outreach (ECO) Teams are passionate about helping people understand why it is important to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle correctly, and how sustainable behaviours are vital in our joint fight against climate change.
From interactive assemblies, workshops and competitions, to e-learning resources, engaging with children and schools is an essential part of the great work our education, communications, and outreach teams carry out.

Veolia’s Sustainable Schools is a brand new set of free programmes focused on proactive student-led group projects based around sustainability. Our programmes will provide an opportunity for real-life application of skills developed both across the national curriculum and outside it, encourage students to think critically about the world around them, and ultimately give rise to student-led developments to your school and local community’s overall environmental performance.
KS2 E-Learning Package
Our KS2 E-Learning Package includes three digital lessons covering topics on the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover), The Recycling Journey, and Littering. Each lesson includes a presentation (with the option of a voice-over format), hands-on activities, and an end of lesson quiz. Additional resources include an extensive set of follow-up activities and a teacher’s guide to walk you through the topics covered and the lessons themselves.
KS3, 4 & 5 Eco Leaders programme
The KS3, 4 & 5 Eco Leaders programme is designed to facilitate a student-led environmental project creating a lasting change within your school or local community. During the 12 week programme, the student group(s) will meet once or twice a week, decide on an area of focus, plan and design a project, and put the project into place. The project has been designed to hand responsibility to students and replicate real-world project management experience and develop employability skills. Each student group will be assigned a Veolia Mentor who will work alongside the Eco group to offer professional advice and direction.
This initiative is currently only available to a limited number of schools, to enquire if it's available to your area please email [email protected]
KS3, 4 & 5 Sustainable Schools Competition
Our KS3, 4 & 5 Sustainable Schools Competition runs between 1st September and 30th November 2022 and asks students what sustainable project they can design to support climate action in their school or local area. The winning school in each area will win some start-up funding to get their project off the ground.
We are asking students to research and think critically about issues that are impacting their local environment, and to offer an innovative real-world solution in response. Students can enter by submitting either a video, a poster, or a short essay on their proposed project.
