Energy Performance Contract
will target savings of over £106,000 per year
Veolia is now helping Glasgow Life, a charity that delivers cultural, sporting and learning activities on behalf of Glasgow City Council, to increase energy efficiency, save money and cut carbon emissions. Delivered under the Scottish Non-Domestic Energy Efficiency, NDEE, framework the Energy Performance Contract will guarantee savings of over £106,000 per year and 1.7 GWh of grid electricity demand. The energy savings will come from a wide range of energy efficiency improvements at the Scotstoun, Gorbals and Bellahouston Leisure Centres.
Glasgow Life wanted to reduce energy demand, upgrade aging plant, and improve resilience to produce financial savings to support the services they provide to citizens and visitors to the city Working under the NDEE framework as an approved supplier Veolia will design and implement a wide range of plant upgrades, supported by project management and consultancy services, to deliver guaranteed savings.
Under the contract Veolia, working through its specialist energy performance contracting team, will deliver building management system upgrades, install variable speed drives VSD, and retrofit modern lighting across the sites. In addition Bellahouston Leisure Centre will gain low carbon heat and electricity supplies from a 125kWe CHP unit that will reduce CO2 emissions by around 200 tonnes per year. The upgrades will be funded by the energy cost savings, with the initial investment provided through Scotland’s Energy Efficiency Programme that was established by the Scottish Government to accelerate the pace and scale of progress in transforming the energy efficiency of public sector buildings.
