The consultation on the Environment Act 2021: environmental targets are concluded and the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) have released a summary of the responses. The consultation sought out the government’s proposals for:
- Biodiversity on land and in the sea
- Water quality and availability
- Resource efficiency and waste reduction
The consultation ran from 16th March 2022 and concluded on 27th June 2022. The government sought views on their plans to introduce new environmental targets under the Environment Act 2021.
The purpose of these targets is to help meet the government’s vision of leaving the environment in a better state than it was found. The publication outlines the methodology, summaries of responses, the government’s response and new targets following the findings.
