Achieving Welsh Sustainability Targets With Plassey Holiday Park

With ambitions towards zero waste by 2050, it’s no wonder that Wales already has the second highest recycling rate in the world.

As of the 1st April 2024, Wales asked all businesses to help them reach these targets by implementing Workplace Recycling laws. Find out how we helped Plassey Holiday Park get ready.

A family-run business located in the Dee Valley, North Wales, Plassey Holiday Park covers 250 acres of beautiful woodland and welcomes thousands of guests every year. It has won many awards for its outstanding campsite facilities, including being named as one of Campsite UK’s Outstanding Sites for 2024.

Protecting their local environment is therefore a top priority for Plassey but with a high turnover of visitors throughout the year, getting recycling right on site was always going to be a challenge.

In early 2024, Plassey reached out to us at Veolia to help them comply with the new Workplace Recycling law. It was a priority for both parties to ensure an efficient mobilisation of new recycling streams with minimal disruption to the outstanding luxury service they provide their guests.

This required a comprehensive waste management audit, which we carry out with each new customer to understand their site and implement a bespoke plan. At Plassey, we examined the waste produced in different areas to determine which recycling receptacles they would need to capture these valuable materials and help boost recycling rates.

Within the first three months of their new waste management plan that prioritises recycling, Plassey Holiday Park has increased its recycling rate by an incredible 47%.

Getting the staff and guests on board with their sustainability journey was crucial to their success. We supported Plassey with tailored recycling guides and clear signage and they created their very own on-site Recycling Area to make recycling the easiest option for all.

We were so pleased we contacted Veolia. They were really professional and provided some great insights and solutions for us to increase our recycling on-site and to ensure we were compliant with the new Welsh Legislation. We’re so pleased we can now report an increase in recycling rates by 47%. Thank you Veolia!

Working with Glenn and The Plassey team has been exceptional. Their dedication during the Veolia transition and implementation of Welsh recycling legislation has been inspiring. The impressive increase in recycling rates demonstrates the power of collaboration, effective processes, and education. I'm excited to continue building our relationship with The Plassey and achieving more positive results together.
