Veolia Welcomes Residents To Composting Open Day

Residents in Basingstoke and neighbouring areas are invited to take a look behind the scenes at the Little Bushywarren Composting Facility on Tuesday 25 October. Veolia Environmental Services, operators of the site, will be holding the special Open Day and all visitors (aged 7 and up) are welcome.

The event is designed to show how green garden waste from across Hampshire is composted on a large scale to make the organic soil conditioner known as Pro-Grow.

During the day visitors can:
• Learn about how we turn garden waste into compost in just 6 months
• Experience an up-close guided tour, to find out about the process
• Take part in educational games for younger visitors

Composting Manager, Ed Watson of Veolia Environmental Services said:

“We think this is a great opportunity for our neighbours and local residents to come and explore what happens at our site. It takes us just 6 months to take green garden waste from Hampshire’s homes and turn it into a useful product!”
Little Bushywarren Composting Facility is part of the Project Integra network of waste management infrastructure, designed to handle Hampshire’s household waste and recycling.  In Hampshire over 36% of our waste is recycled, and just 10% is sent to landfill.  Visitors will find out how we deal with all types of waste from the county’s 1.72 million residents.
