Ever Wonder How Your Rubbish Generates Electricity?

On Saturday 27 June Locals Invited To Chineham ERF Lots to see and do for all ages!

On Saturday 27 June, local residents will get a chance to go behind the scenes at Chineham Energy Recovery Facility to find out how rubbish constantly generates electricity for Basingstoke.

They will get the chance to find out what happens to all their rubbish at the open day, perfect for anyone who has ever ‘wondered’ about what happens after their bins are emptied by Veolia crews.

Open to everyone, places on this always popular event should be booked in advance.  Email [email protected] or call 0203 567 3855 to book your places.  Families are welcome.

Tours of the facility are conducted by Andy Macqueen, facility manager and his team, which run throughout the day. Andy said: “The open day is a great way to find out what happens to your waste, behind the scenes of Basingstoke’s Energy Recovery Facility.  I can promise it won’t be a rubbish day out!”

Visitors will go into the control room and see the fuel being loaded into hoppers for the furnace – up to two tonnes at a time.  They will also walk through the site and see where steam is generated, how the combustion gases are cleaned up, and the giant fans used to cool spent steam back into water for recycling into the boiler again. Visitors will also find out what happens to their recycling!

If you’ve ever wondered what happens to your waste, or just want to see how green electricity produced from our household waste, this is the day out for you! Email [email protected] or call 0203 567 3855 to book your places.
